Spring is over for another year Daffy updates will begin again around beginning of March 2011

Farndale Lowna daffodils
Farndale is internationally famed for its show of wild daffodils which normally bloom at the end of March / beginning of April each year. Usually a little after the best of the domesticated garden daffodils. Attracting around 40,000 visitors to Farndale each year

It is believed the daffodils were first brought to Farndale by some medieval monks from Rievaulx. These wild daffodils (narcissus pseudonarcissus) are also known by the old name Lenten Lily a name derived from the fact they normally bloom around Easter.

The Daffodil walk runs along side the River Dove, for about 1½ miles between Low mill, where the North York Moors National Park has an information caravan during the Daffy season and High Mill a few hundred yards short of Church Houses.

At Low Mill parking is available in a field for a nominal charge and there is a little road parking available around Church Houses or On sundays during the peak season visitors may park in Hutton le Hole and catch the Moors Bus to Farndale. Please click her for details.

The path between Low Mill and Church Houses is mostly made up: Two short sections of the path are paved with most of the remainder being of an aggregate surface, there are 2 short sections which are unsurfaced (these are through wooded parts of the walk). During and after wet weather the path can become muddy in through wooded areas.

Refreshments are available at the Daffy Caffy at High Mill and the Feversham Arms Inn at Church House within farndale. There will be a Bric- a Brac sale in the Band Room on Saturday 17th April. Around the area there are a good selection of Pubs and cafe's please see our links page for more deatails

The more adventurous visitor will be rewarded there is usually a magnificent display in St Mary's Church yard at Church Houses and walking along the River particularly from Lowna where there is a small parking area

Whilst we welcome visitors to the Dale, please remember to treat it with courtesy and abide by the country code, the land is all working farmland. There is no access land in the Dale itself so please keep to signed rights of way.
